Two Australian Citizens About to be Executed in Indonesia
|
I can't help but feel so sorry for these guys. Despite their wrongs. I like to think that we have progressed as a race, so much so that the countries that enjoy the highest standard of living in this world, have long ago abandoned this barbaric act and have recognised that no judge or politician has the right to take someone else's life.
Coincidentally the very countries that still commit this barbaric draconian act, closely relate their justice systems to some book that was written long ago, and is so open to interpretation that it has become a laughing joke amongst the progressive states, to the like as what we have seen recently.
Will we ever learn that if the death penalty was such a fantastic deterrent then it would have been redundant a 1000 years ago.

Whilst I'm generally against the death penalty, I think you would see a hell of a lot more drug traffickers than you do now were it punishable by prison time rather than death.

I don't think so. Whilst the demand is there, the supply is ready and willing.
Surely its up to society to educate young people to not take drugs in the same way as we have with smoking. It takes a long time and that appears to be the problem

Having been to Indonesia many times, it is quite clear upon entry that it is Death Penalty for drugs.
They couldn't make it any clearer.
These people knew what they were dealing with, yet still chose to put themselves in danger for a pound note.
No sympathy whatsoever from me.

If it was my son or daughter I would not have that opinion. Coincidentally nor would you

Been following this for years. There was a stink over the Australian police being tipped off in advance but letting them run with it despite the possible death sentence if caught.

You can't use "you wouldn't day that if it was your family member" as an argument.
If someone murdered your son or daughter you would almost certainly WANT them to be executed.
The legal system exists to ensure justice, not to cater to the families of the accused or the victim.

eric...
Of course not.
But my son or daughter would not be stupid enough to commit such a silly crime in a country with a sentence of that magnitude.
DEAT PENALTY FOR ANYONE FOUND SMUGGLING DRUGS.
Pretty simple.

Having seen their parents visiting the jail in Bali, It is quite clear that they had no idea what they were doing either.
These two young men were working at the MCG as caterers before being lured into this stuff.

The new president Jokowi is making a stance 2 deaths that will save thousands in the long run
It is true there are huge banners all over the airport in Indonesia especially Bali if you smuggle drugs you face the death penalty.
If Jokowi backs down now he shows weakness if these 2 deaths put others off smuggling then it is a victory for Indonesia.

What happened about the bloke who was banged up in a Thai jail who was apparently West Ham? I think a friend of the family or a family member posted on here about it. Rumours that it was all a scam.
